Eat of the Good Things Launched!
Eat of the Good Things is an exciting new project to provide an opportunity for 20 young Muslims to connect with issues of food production and the environment as well as being trained to take leadership roles in your communities, build campaigning networks and inspire others to take action.
Working in association with MADE in Europe, The Leaf Network will be recruiting young activists to explore how the environment and global economy is linked to food production through monthly practical growing sessions at Spitalfields City Farm.
The monthly workshops will also be exploring Islamic teachings about environment, food production, animal welfare, health and sustainable living, as well as providing skills-based training on leadership, team work and campaigning.
Apart from this, the young people will have the opportunity to:
- Connect with young people in countries like Bangladesh and Tanzania through web conferences and social media to share ideas and learn about how these issues affect them
- Organise a Ramadan event in August, to engage with the Muslim community about issues of food
- Organise a publicity stunt for World Food Day in October
- Develop and run their own 3 month mini-project on an area related to food and environment which reflects their own interests
And there's more! The participants will be working towards a Silver Volunteer Achievement Award (VAA) - a framework promoting individual personal development, created by Muslim Youth Skills.
