Join us for this special celebration of the 2013 Oscar-nominated film 5 BROKEN CAMERAS
ABOUT THE FILM:
'5 Broken Cameras' is a documentary chronicling a Palestinian farmer's non-violent resistance to Israeli actions against his family, friends and village.
There are five cameras — each with a story of their own. When his fourth son, Gibreel, is born in 2005, self-taught cameraman Emad Burnat, a Palestinian villager, gets his first camera. At the same time, a separation barrier is built in his village of Bil'in, and the villagers begin to resist this decision. For the next year, Emad films this struggle, which is led by two of his best friends, while at the same time recording the growth of his son. Very soon, these events begin to affect his family and his own life. His cameras capture arrests, violent attacks, bulldozers destroying precious olive trees, the loss of life and night raids. His friends, brothers, and eventually even Emad himself, are either shot or arrested. The cameras used to document these events are, one by one, shot or smashed. Each camera records a part of his story. Eventually, in 2009, Emad approached Guy Davidi — an Israeli filmmaker — and together, using these five broken cameras and the stories that they hold, they created this powerful, heart-wrenching film.
